About Chris Maloney PDF Print E-mail

...Quite a story, but to be brief...

Chris started out in IT in about 1972 working on the London Airport Cargo EDP Scheme (LACES) project in the UK while on a "working holiday" which also involved lifting Schweppes crates, playing "Security Guard" and hitch-hiking the Pennine Mountains, France, Spain etc. etc....

Upon return to Australia about 3 years later, working at BP Australia and later the Dept. Computer Science at Queensland University. Whilst at Qld. Uni, Griffith University started up all shiny and new in Brisbabne and with little more than a letter of recommendation from the then Head of department, Professor Rose, Chris was admitted to an Arts degree in the School of Humanities.... under the "mature-age" program.

This degree focussed on Philosophy of Communication, Semiotics and the Media. The Intention then was to pave the road into some lofty persuits into academic/philosophical studies of Artificial Intelligence, Semiotics, Media and possible new applications in the Arts.

Eventually, after a detour of about ten years involving a marriage interrupted by death and some major road trauma, Chris worked his way back into life via the computer industry he knew - which by this time had evolved to the PC era we all now take so readily for granted. Roughly about 1982 on the timeline.

After awhile and eventually escaping the Systems side of IT, Chris gravitated his business interests again towards the creative and got into the latest buzz of the all-new Desktop Publishing and Presentation Graphics side of things - leading the way in Melbourne to help some major companies move towards these new technologies.

Later, after "going bust" with late '80's recession, with the advent of the Web, Chris took on another vertical self-learning curve and moved into Web Development and production. Roughly 1992 on the timeline. Plasnet, in conjunction with his brother Peter, Plasnet was born in 1994.

These days, Chris "paddles" along trying to run Plasnet on a shoestring and thinking about developing new addon software for the world's leading Content Management System (CMS) known as Joomla!
...Currently, as a Joomla consultant, managing 10 sites and helping organisations get started on the road to self-managed websites.
